A Forgotten Couple's Plea for Help in Melaka
In Melaka, a married couple aged 64 and 48 say they no longer know where to turn for help. According to their account, they have reached out to various individuals, organizations, government agencies, community groups, and charitable bodies in the hope that someone would take notice of the difficult conditions they face every day.
The couple claim they have shared their story with well-known social media personalities, public utility providers, political leaders, women's organizations, government welfare agencies, and online community groups. Despite their efforts, they say they have yet to receive the assistance needed to improve their living situation.
One of the most painful experiences, according to the couple, occurred when they shared their story in several Facebook groups. Instead of receiving support, they say one member publicly accused them of being scammers.
Living Without Basic Utilities
The husband, aged 64, is reportedly a recipient of monthly food assistance from Tzu Chi. The couple say they are deeply grateful for this support, explaining that the food aid has helped sustain them through difficult times.
They married in 2022 and moved into an inherited leasehold family home. However, they describe the property as being in an extremely poor condition. According to their account, the house had already been disconnected from both water and electricity services since 2019, before they moved in.
As a result, they say they have spent years relying almost entirely on rainwater for bathing and other daily needs. The house itself is reportedly deteriorating, with leaking roofs and structural damage that may pose safety risks to its occupants.
Complicated Family Inheritance Issues
The situation is further complicated by an ongoing family inheritance dispute. The couple say that the unresolved ownership issues surrounding the property have made it more difficult for them to seek repairs, reconnect utilities, or secure long-term housing solutions.
According to their account, representatives from a political party and welfare-related personnel visited the property in the past. However, the couple feel that no meaningful assistance resulted from those visits.
They claim that attention was focused primarily on an elderly family member living at the same property who has an intellectual disability. After brief interviews and photographs, they say the visitors left without taking further action regarding the condition of the house or the couple's living circumstances.
Daily Struggles and Loss of Privacy
Beyond financial hardship and housing concerns, the couple describe additional challenges within the household environment. According to their account, another resident of the property has engaged in behavior that causes discomfort and concerns regarding privacy, particularly for the wife.
These circumstances, combined with the lack of running water, electricity, and adequate shelter, have contributed to a growing sense of despair and isolation.
A Plea for Humanitarian Attention
The husband is now 64 years old and no longer working. The couple say that every rainfall brings mixed emotions. While rainwater is essential for their daily survival, it also serves as a reminder of the hardship they continue to endure.
"We are not asking for luxury. We simply hope that someone will come and see our situation with their own eyes and help us find a way forward."
The couple say they have exhausted many avenues in search of assistance. Their greatest hope is that humanitarian groups, volunteers, charitable organizations, or concerned members of the public may be willing to assess the condition of the home and explore possible solutions.
Whether through housing assistance, utility reconnection, legal guidance regarding inheritance matters, or basic humanitarian support, they continue to hope that their voices will eventually be heard.
