The Red Thread and the Spiderman: The Modern Slavery and The Exposed Illusion (Part 9)
The facade of the new job shattered instantly. They were only given office duties on the very first day. After that, Spiderman worked for a mere three days before taking a leave of absence, leaving Barbie Girl to bear the entire grueling burden alone. She was forced to work 15-hour shifts every single day. Shockingly, she was forced into the role of a domestic maid, even though she had never applied for such a position—she was the legal wife of a Malaysian citizen, not a hired helper like Arcel. In a bizarre and suspicious arrangement, she was forced to wash the clothes of the funeral boss, the boss's wife, and even Arcel's clothes altogether. Her daily torture included sweeping, heavy cleaning, scrubbing toilets, and sometimes guarding dead bodies until midnight. Realizing she was trapped in modern slavery, Barbie Girl repeatedly begged Spiderman to leave before her physical strength completely failed. But Spiderman stubbornly refused, using the excuse that he hadn't received his salary yet.
The dark truth behind this trap was soon revealed when the funeral boss showed Barbie Girl his chat logs with Spiderman. To her horror, Spiderman had been bitterly badmouthing her, spinning a narrative that Barbie Girl was deeply impoverished and that he had only married her out of pity. He even provided a blog link detailing Barbie Girl's humble background and sent numerous photos of her to the boss, effectively treating his own wife like a piece of property to be traded. He thought Barbie Girl was just the same as the Filipina prostitute whom he had financially kept and supported from 2013 to 2020. Fortunately, the funeral boss realized that Barbie Girl was the true victim, recognizing how a pure, beautiful, and innocent virgin woman had been entirely manipulated into marrying an old, toothless man who pathetically fantasized that he was handsome and wealthy. This dark manipulation explained why the funeral boss would constantly use harsh words to scold Barbie Girl, arrogantly throwing dirty insults at her. Every time the boss scolded her, he would use foul words like, "This job is easy, easier than making a baby." Facing this humiliation, Barbie Girl bravely fired back, admitting her humble background but exposing the truth: Spiderman was far poorer, living in a house with no water, no electricity, and unpaid taxes. She chose raw honesty over his fake wealth.
Spiderman’s delusional pride was heavily exposed at the workplace. He continuously pretended to be wealthy in front of the funeral boss, acting as if he didn't even need the job and was only there to help Barbie Girl secure employment. His arrogance was so unbearable that he would aggressively talk back to the boss—the same toxic attitude that had caused him to be rejected from every other job application, leaving it a complete mystery how Changi Airport had ever employed him in the past. His foolishness reached peak levels when he mistakenly heard a neighbor crying. He quickly called the funeral boss, excitedly declaring, "There is a death in the front house, our business will increase!" When his prediction turned out to be completely false, he cowardly blamed Barbie Girl for feeding him wrong information.
His complete lack of manners and basic intellect did not go unnoticed. During staff lunches, Spiderman was the only one strictly forbidden from sitting at the same table with the funeral boss. The boss explicitly told Barbie Girl that he was completely out of sync with Spiderman, stating that the man behaved as if he had never gone to school, lacked basic manners, and seriously needed a psychiatric evaluation. Whenever work tasks were taught, Spiderman would listen idly and immediately order Barbie Girl or other workers to execute the orders, living completely in his delusion of grandeur. Consequently, when the staff took a trip to the Cameron Highlands during a work break, Spiderman was deliberately left behind. Instead, he chose to travel back to his hometown, foolishly spending hundreds of Ringgit on bus fares before even receiving his first paycheck. His toxicity peaked during car rides; whenever they spotted a dirty area, Spiderman’s mouth would instantly attack, making derogatory comments like "They are Indonesians, that's why it's dirty," completely blind to the tragic, filthy reality of his own home which was far worse...
