A Married Couple Tricked by a Funeral Director in Kota Kemuning
Let’s call them Roy and Laura, a newlywed couple.
It all began with a driver job advertisement shared by a woman in a WhatsApp group. Roy called the director and explained that he wanted to work as a driver so that he could sponsor a visa for his wife. The director said his personal assistant was an Indonesian woman and told Roy to bring his wife to the office as well.
A few days later, they traveled to visit Roy’s cousin in Puchong and spent a night there before continuing their journey — switching trains and buses several times — to Kota Kemuning. The funeral director greeted them warmly.
He asked Laura to let him keep her passport “for safety reasons.”
Sensing something was off, Laura hesitated and said she should ask Roy first — but unfortunately, Roy agreed, thinking it was safer that way. The director warned them, “If you don’t have your passport, never tell anyone.”
That very day, February 17, 2023, the director’s assistant gave them dirty, smelly uniforms and ordered them to start working immediately — without any chance to wash. That afternoon, Roy was told to get a haircut at the shop behind the office, while Laura was taken by the assistant (let’s call her Masha) to buy bread nearby. Laura said she had no money, and Masha replied, “It’s okay, I’ll pay for you today.”
That evening, the director drove Roy and Laura — along with their suitcases — to his own home. He provided them with a hostel located directly across from his house. At first, the director claimed that the house Roy and Laura were staying in belonged to him and that they could use all the facilities except the food. He also told them he was a former police officer and warned them not to talk to any of the local residents.
He added, “Whatever you do in the hostel, I know. Even if you fart, I know.”
Suspicious, Laura searched the entire room and eventually found a hidden recording device behind the window frame.
Later that same evening, Masha and Laura were ordered to take a Grab ride to Subang Jaya to “see a dead body,” while the director took Roy to the Sheraton Hotel to meet his children.
The next day, the director gave Roy and Laura name cards to hang around their necks. He said, “As long as you wear these, you’ll be safe. No one will dare to touch you.”

One afternoon during lunch, the director told Roy to buy his own food. Roy said he didn’t have money — that Laura was keeping it. His answer made Laura look guilty, as if she had taken all of Roy’s money. In truth, Roy had almost nothing; Laura only held a few of his notes, not even RM100.
Days went by, and work became unbearably exhausting.
Laura worked 15 hours a day without being allowed to sit down.
Whenever the director caught her pausing, he would shout, “Stop wasting time!”
Laura — a university graduate with excellent grades — never imagined she would end up like this.
Worse still, she realized the director had tricked them into working as servants. Roy, who was promised a driver’s job, was never allowed to drive. Instead, he was made to clean and do garden work.
Meanwhile, Laura was turned into a maid, even though several banks had once offered her respectable positions.
It seemed the director enjoyed humiliating her, making the educated woman a servant, while promoting his maid (Masha) to “personal assistant.”
But Laura held onto her faith — believing that God never sleeps.

One morning, the director entered their room and became furious upon seeing food inside. He took photos from every angle and later sent them to someone while making phone calls.
From that day on, everyone living in the shared house began knocking on Roy and Laura’s door, each claiming ownership of the rice cooker, air fryer, washing machine, even the small scratched mini cooker.
Eventually, Roy and Laura were forbidden to cook at all, forcing them to spend more money on food — while still unpaid for their work.
It was clear that the director had orchestrated the entire situation.
During mealtimes, he often humiliated Roy in front of Laura, calling him stupid, lazy, and talkative.
He said things like:
> “When you first came here, you looked smart — but you’re actually foolish and useless.”
In front of two female colleagues, the director even boasted:
> “Only those who think like me deserve to sit and eat with me.”
From then on, Roy was not allowed to eat at the same table as the director, his assistant, or even Laura.
He ate only after they had finished.
The director frequently threatened to send Roy back to his village, saying:
> “I’ve sent many people like you back home before.”
Eventually, he even took back Roy’s name tag through his assistant.

Laura continued to work 15-hour days, resting only when she slept.
Roy, on the other hand, was given little work — but when he was assigned tasks, they were deliberately torturous. Once, the director forced him to scrub the parking floor under the scorching sun, until Roy nearly fainted from the heat.
One day, Masha told them to pack their bags, saying they would be sent to different places for seven days.
Back at the hostel, Roy and Laura grew terrified — wondering where they would be separated.
After a sleepless night, they decided to escape together to Roy’s hometown, even though Laura’s passport was still held by the director. Roy called his cousin, asking to stay at his place for one night and keep their luggage there.
They waited all night for a call from the director that never came — until finally, he called and told Roy to return to his village, claiming there was “a job waiting for him there.” But before leaving, he ordered Roy to come to the office first.
Roy simply replied, “Yes.”
At the hostel, the couple hurriedly packed their things, dragging their suitcases out the door. Roy booked a Grab car, while Laura hid behind the living room door to avoid being seen by the CCTV pointing directly from the director’s house.
When the car arrived, they jumped in — and sped away toward Roy’s cousin’s home.
