The Red Thread and the Spiderman: The Haunted House and Broken Promises (Part 4)
Shortly after that trip, the world ground to a sudden halt. The COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, locking everyone behind closed borders. It wasn't until early 2022 that international flights finally reopened. Out of nowhere, Spiderman resurfaced with a shocking declaration: he wanted to marry Barbie Girl. Stunned, Barbie Girl replied with complete honesty, telling him she no longer desired marriage as she had already reached menopause. Yet, Spiderman pleaded with absolute earnestness. He assured her that her life would be fully secure with him. He even promised that they could try IVF, or she could adopt a child in Indonesia and bring them to Malaysia. After seeking answers through deep prayer, Barbie Girl finally agreed to give it one last chance.
Barbie Girl packed her bags and flew to Malaysia. She was picked up by Spiderman, who had recently retired from his job in Singapore and moved back to his home country. However, the moment she arrived at his residence, she was struck by sheer horror. The place looked exactly like a haunted house. It was filthy, chaotic, and completely overtaken by wild bushes and creeping weeds. Worst of all, there was no electricity and no running water. Barbie Girl had never seen anyone of Chinese descent live in such extreme poverty—a jarring contrast to the wealthy persona he had painted over WhatsApp. With a sweet, manipulative smile, he told her not to worry, claiming they would pay off the utility bills right after the wedding.
They went to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) to register their marriage, but their application was flatly rejected because her documents lacked the necessary official stamps. This setback forced Barbie Girl to return to Indonesia immediately to stamp her paperwork and renew her passport. Back home, she worked tirelessly every single day to get everything in order. Meanwhile, Spiderman would call her constantly, sweet-talking her with grand promises of a dream pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali and a lavish celebration party at a luxury hotel once their JPN registration was complete.
But the sweet talk quickly turned toxic. Spiderman began issuing aggressive threats, warning that he would cancel the wedding if she did not speed up the process. The dark, familiar insults weaponized once again. He screamed that she was nothing but a stubborn "old dog." In a terrifying display of control, he forced her to type out a written statement admitting that she was a dog. After humiliating her, he blocked her number entirely. Barbie Girl was left completely stranded, having just spent tens of millions of rupiah to prepare dozens of legal documents, each requiring two expensive official stamps as mistakenly demanded by the embassy. The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) had inadvertently made the process incredibly difficult and costly because they had mistakenly applied the strict rules meant for Muslim marriages, rather than Buddhist ones.
Cut off and blocked without warning, Barbie Girl was left helpless. Her mind raced to her two suitcases still sitting inside Spiderman’s desolate, haunted house. They contained her valuable gold jewelry. She faced a painful dilemma: should she find a way to retrieve them, or leave them behind? In the end, Barbie Girl chose her peace of mind. She decided to let them go completely, viewing the abandoned belongings and the lost gold as a final sacrifice to cast away the bad luck and cut the toxic ties forever...
