I Am Nobody's Child XIII

The psychic didn’t dare to fully cleanse my aura because she feared that the one who had blocked it might retaliate and do something even more terrible.
Still, she told me to believe that I would get married one day.

She said that in her vision, I would marry a man with a face like someone from Hong Kong — just as I had always wished. She advised me to keep in touch with him, even though he had hurt my heart.
“Don’t reject him,” she said. “He is the man your ancestors chose for you.”

One day, she said, he would realize everything — he would change, treat me kindly, love me deeply, and regret how cruel he had been. He would understand how much he had wasted my sincere, pure love.
The important thing, she said, was that I must remain loyal, patient, and steadfast.

Of course, I was loyal. I was patient and not easily angered. I knew myself well.
At that time, I was 37 years old.

In 2009–2010, my wicked friend’s mother borrowed my suitcase — just one day before my dance competition. I was forced to travel without it.
Months later, my suitcase was returned in terrible condition — the zipper was broken, the fabric torn everywhere — and it wasn’t even the same person who returned it.

Then, around 2010–2011, something even worse happened. One day, my mother and I went shopping at the mall. While there, she secretly exchanged her worn sandals with a new pair of the same model.
When we passed the cashier, the mall security caught me instead and took me to the office.

There were about six men. They interrogated me harshly and forced me to admit that I had stolen the sandals.
They threatened to send me to jail. I was terrified — no one knew or understood my fear. I was even afraid they might harm me.

In the end, out of fear and for my mother’s sake, I confessed to something I never did. They made me pay 50 dollars and sign a paper.

After that, rumors spread among my mother’s relatives — they said I had stolen sandals from the mall.
My mother twisted the story to protect herself from shame and sacrificed me instead. That’s how she is.

If I tried to defend myself, the rumors would only get crueler.
She would tell everyone that I was a rebellious daughter — and sometimes even threatened to kill herself if I didn’t obey her will.
